Hi,
I'm thinking of getting a tablet PC to use as a drawing tool (Corel Draw/Photopaint and PaintShop Pro) as well as a recording station (Adobe Audition, used to be Cool Edit Pro).
I am however confused about the specs of the T4010 regarding its buit-in sound capabilities. Ofcourse the salesman at the local store says everything is possible with fantastic quality, but I would rather have some facts.
The specs sheet states:
1x Microphone (line in)
In the downloaded manual they don't mention any line in connector. The technical difference between a mic and line in connector is:
1 phisically, a mic jack is usually mono and a line-in should be stereo.
2 Electronically, a mic is a passive device needing amplification, but a line-in would expect a ready amplified signal.
Does the T4010 automatically detect if a mic or other audio device is plugged in?
Would anyone be able to tell (or mesure) the noise floor (on batteries without the mains conneted, as well as with the mains connected). I would also like to know the signal-to-noise ratio.
I would appreciate it if someone could answer these questions.
Cheers,
Louis
Creative also makes several external and a PCMCIA sound card as well. Take a look at those. I would say if the quality is important to you those would simply be the way to go (assuming you weren't on a real tight budget). Even if recording is good playback wont give it the quality you would want without a sound card most likely (not sure about fujitsu's built in, but guessing its the standard space saving low quality sound).
I would reccomend the USB sound cards over the PCMCIA one though, the word I heard was that it took someone up to 10 minutes to shut down the tablet with the PCMCIA card in, and complained it got hot. So unless you need _complete_ mobility I would go the USB route. _________________ James Volodymyr R.

Louis, I can't speak to your model as I have the 5022 D which does only have a mono mic input. No stereo line input. I do, however, record awesome audio, as well as video, on my tablet, but through the firewire port (in the studio through a deck, in the field through a DV camera). I use Sony Vegas Video 5.
