I have the strangest problem trying to login to my Portégé M200 Win XP Tablet Edition.
It happened on the next restart of my system after installing Microsoft's
last set of updates, this past Sunday night. I am using Windows XP tablet
Windows starts up normally and goes to the login screen where it asks me to
choose a user and enter my password. I enter the password and I see windows
displaying "loading personal settings". (My password is entered correctly)
But, I never get to my desktop instead I go back to the Windows login
screen. No error message, nothing. And, it seems like it's stuck in a
perpetual loop at that point.
I tried restoring to "last known good configuration". I tried safe mode. I
tried safe mode with command prompt. And, also tried the directory services
option. All of these choices brought me to that perpetual loop I mentioned
above. I am only given the opportunity to enter my password but I never get
to my desktop.
Ouch! This is why I never update until I absolutely have to (our school network makes us update certain MS updates to logon).
It seems really weird that safe-mode would do this... IIRC safe-mode never prompts you to login- or if it does doesn't it just let you click administrator?
I would contact Microsoft over this, good luck though. Keep us posted on how it works out! _________________ James Volodymyr R.
