I am thinking of using OneNote 2007 for a simple tablet based electronic patient chart. I am a Canadian physician who makes house calls on about 150 frail seniors, and I continue to use paper charts.
My question is, should I use a separate notebook for each patient, with separate sections for patient profile, progress notes, reports etc, OR should I use a separate section for each patient with pages and sub-pages for the patient profile, progress notes etc?
If I am duplicating a paper chart, it seems more logical to use a new notebook for each patient as opposed to a new section, but I am not sure which is the best option.
It is now much easier to scan and 'print' to OneNote 2007, and so I can scan vital pages of old paper charts into OneNote.
I will use a separate notebook for each patient with sections for cummulative patient profile, progress notes, lab results and reports, and a section for scans of vital sections of old paper charts.
Though there are many interesting EMR solutions on the market, they do not fit my particular needs. I have a small, specialized, and geographically scattered practice and so I need a simple, mobile, tablet based solution using a program such as OneNote.
Now, to take the plunge and go paperless... (Or more likely run paper and tablet systems in parallel as I gear-up to going totally paperless:-))
