With the larger Tablets such as the Acer C310, do you find the 14" screen is difficult to carry around and write on at the same time? Are they very mobile?

I use an M200 which is smaller than the sizes you are talking about, and I find it impossible to write for any length of time. Quick notes on the go are fine, but I can't get comfortable enough with the bulk to take notes say through an entire class.

This is why I have become a fan of slates =D

Ah, all right. Thanks for that. Just out of interest, can a slate link up to a docking station/monitor+keyboard?

Yes, it can vary from slate-to-slate but all can hook up periphials and become a regular laptop. This is sometimes achieved via USB or on most models a docking station is offered/included that your slate just plugs into. Some also have keyboards it can plug into that not only gives you a keyboard but places the slate at a viewable angle for typing.

Pending your situation I would normally reccomend a slate. My convertible was perfect for me last year, but in the long run a slate would have been better. Last year I was in high school and did a lot of heavy graphic/video work on the go for my JROTC class, I also did a program that allowed me to take classes at the "local" community college, 30 minutes away. Because of those aspects a convertible was perfect, I always had a computer with me.

Today though I find myself never more than 5 minutes (on a real campus now) from my own desktop, and never more than a stonesthrow from a campus desktop I could use. In this case a slate would have been much better, the few things I actually would prefer a convertible for are no longer an issue because even IF I did any video work these days, I could easily get back to my room if I had time to kill. Etc.

I hope that helped!

Hi,
I have the Acer C301 and it's the same size and weight as the C314. I've tried using it as a Slate and I find it too heavy to hold for any period of time. It's like picking up a 5 pound dumbbell and holding it up while you focus on writing.

I use mine on my desk or lap when I write.
