HP support says 2gb is not supported

Can TI offer a TC1620 driver update?

Hi,
It's up to HP to offer an upgrade to the driver to support the 2GB SD card.

If they are not offering it then I doubt there will be one.

The only offered update is;

http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/Compaqtabletpc/us/download/22147.html

However it only offers an update for 1gb. I read that they relunctantly offered this update and planned to do no more. An important question would be if this update allows you to use 1gb of your card, or if it just isn't detected. For example, originally XP I think like wouldn't recognize HDD's over 300gbs or something- you could use them but only to the 300gb mark. That wasn't the case, but it was something like that, I know i've ran into that.

Most likely if your tablet will allow using 32mb, 64mb, 512mb, (whatever) amount of the 2gb card then the update will allow you to use 1gb. If not, the update probably wont help.

However, you could try a external card ready. This definitely is not as handy, but if you can't return the 2gb card it would be worth it. I am not sure if it would work, my understanding of the interface between a computer and flash memory is limited.

EDIT: According to this conversation an external reader will detect the 2gb card at full capacity. However, a user reports successfully installing this driver on a TC4200 (which is not listed as a supported device for this driver) and it fixed the 2gb problem. No one reported trying it on a TC1x000. There is a second driver that claims to fix the 2gb problem but lists only one laptop as a supported system. One user reported trying this driver and it did not work- however he was using a weird PCMCIA (or whatever it is can never remember) adapter for his SD card and was not sure if that was effecting it. I reccomend either reading that discussion or trying both drivers- make sure you set a system restore point before trying them though.

Guys and gals,

the URL no longer exists. However, when accessed thru WayBack (an example is http://web.archive.org/web/20060427002928/http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/Compaqtabletpc/us/download/22147.html ), the EXE file is still downloadable.

Also note that I've tested the other drivers spoken of at http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/questionanswer.do?admit=109447626+1225008550231+28353475&threadId=943361 , namely, sp30714.exe, sp33439.exe and sp28670.exe. None of them worked.
